This building has a residential area specially equipped for elderly people who require special assessment, rehabilitation and nursing services. The building is a response to the conventional paradigm of a foster home or nursing home. Through its specialty the standards, the building becomes a medical center to one where family and carers work together to care for residents.
The building is designed as a large house or hotel on the coast – nothing like a hospital. with a new language developed to describe the program. The rooms where people stay, containing windows in which people can sit and enjoy the view. These have large windows that open to provide natural light and fresh air in the place.
Wooden flooring, vinyl flooring and lighting through the warm colors help reinforce domestic lighting and different readings of the spaces. The dining room is the social center and focus on family building. Here, family members, guests and staff together to eat, talk and have a cup of tea.
The building is covered with “plates” oversized bricks that are made out with a contoured wood grain through a digital design. The building is compatible with a new way of providing services to the elderly in our communities – through buildings there are people and families in the middle.
